New York Comic Con may not be having an in-person event this year, but we are gearing up for their virtual comic con known as Metaverse in less than two weeks! NYCC will be going completely online this year and will be free to attend. Most panels will be free to watch on the NYCC YouTube channel and will have a plethora of content for four days from October 8-11.
The Cosplay Central Championships of Cosplay, powered by SYFY WIRE, will be premiering on NYCC's YouTube on Saturday, October 10th, at 2:40pm ET. While we eagerly wait for this year's competition, we are highlighting some of the competitors from the 2019 Championships.
This Rocket Raccoon cosplay by Electric Emy won 2nd place in the FX category last year at the NYCC Championships of Cosplay. A bear mask was used as the base of the head, which then had to be transformed into a raccoon. Foam clay was used for all the details from nails, eyes to Rocket’s nose to get the perfect shape. This was Electric Emy’s first large weapon build standing at four-feet tall. Mechanics were used to involve a moving jaw, and LEDs in the jetpack and gun. The entire cosplay took approximately one month to construct.
Considering Rocket Raccoon was CGi'ed in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, it's impressive to see how cosplayers turn it into real life. Emy even put together a Guardians group at NYCC to get the whole gang together!
Be sure to keep an eye out for more of our cosplay features and get ready to party at NYCC's Metaverse on their YouTube channel running October 8-11.
