The 2022 Crown Championships are well underway and we can’t wait to see the selected finalists take to the stage in the Global Final at MCM London Comic Con this October but we’ve got some exciting changes to the competition for 2023 to tell you about!

The Global Final will be returning to C2E2 in Spring 2023!

The competition at C2E2 will have 3 stages:

  • A USA regional qualifier
  • The USA Final where one overall USA champion will be chosen from the 4 regional winners
  • The Global Final to choose a crown champion from the national finalists selected around the world

Qualifying Rounds

For the USA, regional qualifiers kick off at Florida Supercon this July, followed by ECCC in August, NYCC in October and one final regional qualifier at C2E2 in spring 2023.

Cosplayers in the UK will have a second chance to try out for the Crown this year with the qualifier for the 2023 championship taking place at MCM Birmingham Comic Con in November 2022.

PAX Australia couldn’t hold their selection for the 2022 championship so will now select a finalist to join us in Chicago in 2023 in October 2022.

Look out for a full directory of the independent events that will be joining the 2023 Crown Championships coming later in the year.

Rule Updates

We’ve also made some changes to the rules and format of the competition for 2023 following your feedback and what we have learned from the 2022 championships so far.

We loved seeing your performances but to stream line the show and avoid pesky music rights problems we will be returning to walk ons only for the competition. There will not be a defined stage presentation score for the 2023 competition but judges will still be looking at your stage presentation closely to see how your costume moves and spot any benefits (or flaws!) in how you designed and made your costume that they couldn’t see in the pre-judging room. It’s also your chance to shine on the main stage in front of the audience so make the most of your time on stage.

For qualifier rounds in the USA we are also bringing back the category awards for Armor, Needlework and FX. Please note you will need to mark which category you will be competing in on your application when signups open for each US show.
